Summary of Cottages

Rented Cottages in Templeton - from George Jackson's Accounts Book
1846-1864

This includes all the cottages whose occupants paid rent to the Chichester family. Some of them, who were paid for work done on the estate including some who did not pay rent are listed on a table for Cottages and their workers.
Payments were to the Chichester family of Calverleigh who owned much of Templeton village. The dates where the accounts book begins and ends are shown in bold print though occupancy could have begun earlier and gone on longer than the dates given. There appear to be ten cottages involved and the grouping of tenants for each seems reasonable from the amounts paid in rent and the dates involved, but this is not proven. Where no sum is entered in the table below the rent remained unchanged.
