Rented Farms in Templeton - from George Jackson's Accounts Book
1846-1864
M=May N=November
acreage as given by the 1842 Tithe Act where known
Most of the following table is extracted from George Jackson's account book but information in italics is taken from Calverleigh & Templeton Rental 1 November 1836 [DDCC 114/12] which must be a transcript from an earlier accounts book (- not in the same hand!) for the purposes of the Tithe Commutation Act
Payments were to the Chichester family of Calverleigh who owned much of Templeton village. The dates where the accounts book begins and ends are shown in bold print; farmers may have been there much longer, e.g. James Beedell from at least 1842 as shown in note on inside front cover. Differences in rent may be due to disbursements not shown here. Where it is known that a farmer is the owner the payments may be for extra acres rather than the whole farm. George Jackson is shown in small italic type as he appears to have lived at Cloggs rent free and no other rent was paid on the property while he was there.
