This site is based initially on the Account Book of George Jackson who lived in the village for over thirty years. He was a land steward for the Chichester family of Calverleigh and related families who owned extensive properties locally in Calverleigh, Washfield, Templeton and Witheridge as well as many more elsewhere. Additional information is from various censuses, local directories, the Tithe Apportionment Act, the IGI, Burke's Landed Gentry etc. Information about the Jacksons is from family sources based mainly in Hampshire, Sussex and Surrey. Your webmaster is George Jackson's great-great-granddaughter, Barbara.
